Kaohsiung City’s Ferry Company officially launched its newest electric-powered ferries, Xiongzhan No. 2 雄棧2號 and Alice, 艾莉絲號on December 30th, 2024 at the Pier-2 Art Center waterfront plaza. Mayor Chen Chi-mai attended the inauguration ceremony and was among the first to board the Xiongzhan No. 2. The Mayor expressed his gratitude for the Central Government’s substantial support, which facilitated the addition of three new ferries to the Cijin-Gushan route.
These new ferries are expected to reduce carbon emissions by 23% and energy costs by 30%, significantly contributing to energy conservation and carbon reduction. They also minimize vibration and noise issues, improve passenger comfort, and enhance the service quality of the Ferry Company. Kaohsiung residents can use Kaohsiung’s TPASS to take advantage of free ferry and YouBike rides as part of the city’s Green Transportation Initiative.
The addition of these electric-powered ferries, say city officials, will contribute to the modernization of Kaohsiung’s port area and provide a boost to the local economy and tourism appeal of Cijin (Qijin) Island.
